New Years Reiki Circle 2015

By Josslyn Streett, Reiki Master/Teacher for Rain Shadow Reiki in Sequim, WA

Happy New Year!!

No better way to start the new year than with some Reiki and some wonderful Reiki people.

For some reason, the first circle of the year always seems to be especially charged with fabulous energy.  A lot of positive vibrations I guess.  Last nights Reiki Circle was no different, it was truly magical.  Thank you to all who participated, each one of you added your unique spirits to the evening proving you are truly spiritually powerful beings.  I feel so grateful to have such an amazing community.

Me on the table surrounded by my Reiki Healers. Awesome!
Me on the table surrounded by my Reiki Healers. Awesome!

We had two tables of healers but at the end, since the table I was at was running later than the other table, and because it was my birthday week, everyone worked on me all at the same time.  It was amazing and filled with such love.  I got choked up and so emotional I couldn’t say the closing blessing.  All so wonderful.

Shameless Sales Pitch for Reiki Circles

If you have an opportunity to go to a Reiki circle near you (Search engine- your town + Reiki Circle), get to know the people and be a part of a spiritual circle like this, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.  Love, support, compassion, practice, reinforcement of your Reiki channel, guidance from a Master, gratitude, connection to community, connection to Divine Source, full healing for cheap and more, are why I would and do give up one night a month to drop everything else and participate in group healing.

If you aren’t, and you have the possibility to do so, ask yourself, truly, what is holding you back from such a spiritually rewarding activity.   Again, this is a question for yourself, not for me.  You might be surprised at your answer.  If you need help clearing any of those blockages that are getting in your way, feel free to call for a session.  When you are ready, it will happen easily.

Reiki Blessings to you all,

Josslyn

Reiki Circle – Baby Reiki!!

By Josslyn Streett, Reiki Master/Teacher for Rain Shadow Reiki in Sequim, WA

I do not always write about our Reiki circles, but lately it seems there has been something of interest to write about.  Last night we had a very nice sized Reiki circle, not out biggest, but big for our small town Reiki community.  We had 15 people come, learn about, discuss and share Reiki.

We had three rooms with a massage table in each and five people at each table. Each group working with Reiki independently but also, I could feel the energy of all 15 of us, all working together as one, one intention, one energy, on purpose- to heal each other.
We had three rooms with a massage table in each and five people at each table. Each group working with Reiki independently, but also, I could feel the energy of all 15 of us, all working together as one; one intention, one energy, one purpose  – to heal each other.  I could also feel, in the bigger picture, all spiritual people all over the world coming together in unity, in one purpose, to heal our world, one person at a time, or 15 at a time in our case.  This is why working in small spiritual groups is so important for all of us right now. (Photo by Josslyn Streett – do not use without consent from her directly)

We had people of all experiences with Reiki and some with absolutely no experience at all.  We started with a discussion of what Reiki is, then how to do Reiki, then as we know, especially with Reiki that EXPERIENCE IS THE BEST TEACHER, we DID Reiki on each other.  That is what Reiki circle is all about after all, DOING!!

Which leads me to one of my favorite quotes I read in my Reiki I class about Reiki by Frank Arjava Petter from his book “Reiki, The Legacy of Dr. Usui”, “Reiki itself, I mean the energy, cannot be taught.  It reveals itself completely on its own if we are attentive.  This attention is what the teacher promotes in the student.”

Energy must not be explained, but experienced.”

BABY REIKI

Baby M is back and doing Reiki on us. He took my full Reiki I class with his mom a month ago and came to the circle with his mom. Watching was not enough, he wanted to DO Reiki too!
Baby M is back and doing Reiki on us. He took my full Reiki I class with his mom a month ago and we believe he spontaneously attuned himself because he’s been running Reiki ever since then.  Tonight he came to the circle with his mom. Watching was not enough, he wanted to DO Reiki too! (Photos by Josslyn Streett – do not use without consent from her directly.)

I and one other at our table received our first Reiki from a baby.  And, he had very distinct ideas about where he wanted his hands as well as his mother’s hands.  He was pushing on her and directing her hands where he wanted them to be.  He was quite serious in his practice.  But, then, he’s quite a serious guy.

COMING TOGETHER

I also felt a very strong feeling of coming together.  Not just this group of 15 people coming together, but the whole world, coming together as ONE, to shift the energy of our planet.  These are the feelings I often get at Reiki circle and one of the reasons I love Reiki circle so much and encourage everyone to attend one.  Small groups of spiritual people coming together with intention, purpose and Divine Guidance can seriously change the world for the better.  We can save ourselves and our world, all at the same time.

What are you doing on a Saturday night that is more important than that?  (Question for you, not for me.)

Thank you so much for all who attended our circle last night.  I’m so incredibly grateful every single time I get to participate with these amazing spiritual people, right here in my own small town.  I’m constantly amazed by how many people are coming out of the woodwork to learn Reiki and also, a whole new way of being connected to our Creator through Reiki practice.  I love it, live for it because it gives me great hope for our future.  And, because it makes life truly magical every single day.

Great Blessings to you all,

Josslyn

Energy Healers Circle on the Olympic Peninsula

By Josslyn Streett, Reiki Master/Teacher for Rain Shadow Reiki in Sequim, WA

Please note, message from our Divine Creator and my guides: Divine has been telling me for a while, but a whole lot more since the major shift in our energy state at the beginning of the new cycle, that it is time to be working in small, local, spiritual groups.  Working in groups of like-minded people helps us to move forward on our healing path and spiritual journey more quickly and more easily.  It also makes it a more spiritually fulfilling life and experience.  THIS blog, although you may not think so, is a message for YOU.  It is time to make our spiritual lives our NUMBER ONE PRIORITY!!  It is time to drop activities that are not fulfilling our souls, and add activities that are.  This will help to make us feel whole again, and truly get us on our soul path.

MANIFEST ONE

If you are not manifesting a spiritual group to be a part of, not starting one of your own, then it is time to do so.  Make a list of what kind of group you are looking for.  Be specific for what you want, down to how far you want to drive to get there.  What kind of people will be in the group.  How you will FEEL when you are a part of this group, etc.  Reiki the list or pray over it daily.  Change it as need be.  Feel LOVE IN YOUR HEART as you manifest this group.  Then DO.  Look through the newspapers and local bulletin boards and talk to friends and family who are open to spiritual beliefs, because you never know where you are going to get the message about your perfect group.  Aunt Bea says “Oh, I heard about a new meditation group starting by your house on Wednesdays.”  BINGO!!  Be open to the possibilities that you WILL FIND the perfect spiritual group for you and you will.

Now for my blog…..

ENERGY HEALERS CIRCLE

Since I moved to Sequim, WA 5 1/2 years ago and started teaching Reiki here shortly after, I have had the goal of the healers on the Olympic Peninsula coming together as one.  There are many great healers here doing important healing work.  But, we all seem to be doing it by ourselves, in our own way.  This has worked for me due to the fact that my main job is mom and my time is defined by mom duties, like taxi driver and homework administrator.  But, I’ve continued to manifest this group slowly and surely, knowing that when the time was right, Divine would do the big work.  I was right.  And, the time is right.  It is happening easily and effortlessly which is how it happens when we allow Divine to do most of the work.

CHANGE HAPPENS

I’ve been a part of another healer’s group for about a year.   The group has gone through many changes in the last two years.  It was a group specifically for Energy Psychology, but now it is focused on all different types of energy healing.  Anyone interested in doing energy healing and alternative healing on the Olympic Peninsula is welcome to come, learn and share.  We all take turns in teaching some new method of energy healing each month.  We meet from 9 am to 11 am on the third Friday of each month.  Contact Penny Burdick at mandalaht@gmail.com if you are local and you’d like more information about attending a meeting.  April’s meeting will be at my home and I will be teaching about healing with crystals.

Back Chakra Activation

This month, three of the healers who had taken a class in Back Chakra Activation shared some of what they leaned and how it can be used in a healing practice.  It was so motivating to me I’ll be signing up to take this class in June myself.  I felt it was a worthwhile technique to learn and share.  This class information was downloaded to the teacher, Franny Harcey, an experienced Healing Touch Certified Practitioner and Registered Psychotherapist, over a period of many years.  She has now written it up into a class.  Her guides even told her which states and areas she was to focus on first for teaching this class.  They were very specific.

Back Chakra Activation helps specifically with anxiety, PTSD, depression, chronic illness, fatigue, and acute pain.  It also provides energetic support of the body for integrating the connection of front and back chakras.  the back side of the chakra system is of key importance to unlocking the unconscious, opening to alternate realities, and embracing our dreams, premonitions and beliefs.

If you would like further information on any of these healings or activities you can contact me at rainshadowreiki@gmail.com .

Blessings to you all, thank you for reading,

Reiki Quick Tip – Reiki Your Feet!

By Josslyn Streett, Reiki Master/Teacher for Rain Shadow Reiki in Sequim, WA

FEET

A reminder that our feet need Reiki too and HOW to do it!

FeetReikiThis topic keeps coming up at the Reiki circles each month.  At the circles we have other people working on us and our feet get lots of Reiki.  Typically we have three to five people surrounding us at Reiki circle all practicing Reiki at the same time.  It is inevitable that someone will be at the feet each time.  My husband is a foot person so he loves to be entrusted with that area during circle.  I prefer the head or the body.  We do our best to move around during circle so each person gets to experience a different side and perspective, but we still tend to have our most comfortable areas.

Poor Ignored Feet

I admit it, I am not a foot person.  I don’t like to have people massage my feet, tickle my feet or even touch my feet.  Just not into it.  So, I also admit, I’m the first to skip my feet when I’m doing a Reiki Self Healing.  There, I admitted it…I skip my feet!  I get down to my knees and then think “Ok, that’s good, I did my self-treatment.”

7200 Nerve Endings In Our Feet

It is good.   Better than not doing it at all, but our feet work very hard for us, every single day.   They deserve more attention that I’m giving them, and maybe your feet do too.

Another reminder – Our feet are also critical to our whole bodies’ health.  Every nerve line in the body ends in the feet. According to the RAA, each foot has 7,200 nerve endings in it.

Reflexology points on the feet
Reflexology points on the feet

And while reflexology practitioners sometimes talk about manipulating “energy,” the basic theory seems to rest with these nerve endings, which would love to be massaged, energized and activated with Reiki also.  Reiki is always gentle and safe.

As well, we have a nice sized chakra in our feet which very importantly brings up Mother Earth energy for grounding.  No surprise with the way I have ignored my feet that this is a continual issue for me.  No judgment, we all have our issues.  So, you can see, as a reminder to myself and all of you, our feet need more attention than we are giving them.  Reiki is the perfect, gentle way to give your feet that attention whether you love to have your feet touched, or not.  Thank goodness, with Reiki you can do it either way, touch or no touch.

Excuses

Our feet are probably the most uncomfortable to get to.  It’s an awkward position to lift our feet up and do Reiki on them on our lap.  I have many clients who physically cannot do this due to age or physical issues.  Then others like me who get so far and then finish or fall asleep before the feet get Reiki.

HOW TO REIKI OUR FEET

We talk about this in Reiki I beginning class.  I’m thinking most teachers probably cover this.  But, since this topic keeps coming up at circles,  I figure a little reminder doesn’t hurt.

HOW to Reiki Your Feet

  • Traditional method – put one foot at a time up on your lab and do hands on Reiki on your foot.  Two hands on one foot at a time.  One on top and one on bottom works nicely. (see photo above)

My son beaming Reiki at his feet. Photo by Joss St, please link if used.
My young son beaming Reiki at both of his feet at the same time. This is much easier on the body for people with physical limitations.  Hold your hands where most comfortable.  Photo by Joss St, please link if used.
  • Beaming method – Simply put your feet up on a cushion, ottoman,on the bed or even keep them on the floor, and beam the Reiki from your hands to your feet.  One at a time would be best but to beam Reiki at your feet at all, at this point, is all good.
  • Eye beam – beam the Reiki through your eyes, with intention, to your feet one at a time or at the same time.  This may take practice if you have not done it before, but what better way to practice this than by doing Reiki on the hard to reach feet?!  Simply hold the intention in your mind, body and spirit that you are beaming Reiki through your eyes to your feet and then look at your feet.  Imagine this is working and ask Divine to send your Reiki guides to add help for you.  They will give you insight as to how to do this.

IMPORTANT

Please remember, the comfort of your body is important.  You do not want to injure yourself in any way while doing Reiki.  Do what feels good to your body first and foremost and the Reiki energy will flow more abundantly and with ease.

Reiki Symbols

Yes, definitely work with your Reiki symbols with your feet.  I bet your feet will soak up the extra love and attention.  Using grounding symbols at this point would be fabulous since your feet are one area where you may bring up Mother Earth energy for grounding.  The Power Symbol (CKR), or the two Master Symbols (UDKM or TDKM) would work beautifully.  And, of course, since with Reiki there is no wrong, work with any other symbol that your intuition advises for your feet.  It’s all good!

I pray this little reminder will get some of your feet feeling the love very soon.  I know my feet are much happier.  Thank you to all of you who participate in the circles and help to bring so many blog ideas to share with others.

Blessings to you all,

Josslyn

First Reiki Circle of 2014

By Josslyn Streett, Reiki Master/Teacher for Rain Shadow Reiki

Our first Reiki circle of the new year was filled with a great deal of Divine Love that we all seemed to feel very tangibly.  After each session that seemed to be the theme that we would talk about, FEELING the LOVE, FEELING the CONNECTION.  It was AWESOME to say the least.

Reiki Circle January 11, 2014, photo by Josslyn Streett, please link if used.
Reiki Circle January 11, 2014, photo by Josslyn Streett, please link if used.

There are so many parts of Reiki circle that I love: being part of a Reiki community, practice, sharing and receiving Reiki from others, which I don’t very often have a chance to do.  But, I feel now, the number one reason I continue doing the Reiki circles is the total connection I feel with the other people during a Reiki healing.  Feeling connected by our heart chakra cords, coming together for a common purpose with such loving intent, consistently gives me hope for our world.  But, it also gives me that reminder that we are not alone, on earth or in heaven.  Divine Source is with us, our guides are with us at all times and other Reiki people and healers all over the world are all together working for a better future for our planet.  We are not alone in this earthly experience and Reiki circle reminds me of that in the most beautiful and profound way.  To FEEL God working within you, that is purpose.

Thank you to the precious souls who participated in last nights circle with us and thank you to everyone who participates in a Reiki circle or share in your community.  If you do not, I highly recommend finding one and making it a regular practice, for you, for everyone.  There is so much love to be shared, lets share it.  JUST DO IT!!

In Love and Light,

Josslyn

Congratulations New Reiki Kids!!

By Josslyn Streett

A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to our six new Reiki kids!

Saturday we had another Kids Reiki class.  Six children and their Reiki adults celebrated Divine Source Energy by learning about Reiki, the history of hands on healing and Reiki, Reiki spirit guides and animal guides, feeling energy, meditation, chakras, auras and much more.  Thank you to Tim, Jerica, Josiah, Lilly, Kayella and Makena for being so brave and loving as they learned something totally new.

Reiki kids excited about Reiki history!

Divine Source, God, Great Spirit and much more

We started the day talking about all the different names there are around the world for God and how they need to trust their own intuition to know what name feels right to them and their families.  The kids did their very first meditation to find their safe place and then each one shared what their safe place looked like to them.  Many of them saw power animals and spirit guides at their safe place.  I was encouraged with how well they did for their first time and how much they seemed to enjoy it.

The Reiki kids wrapped colored bandanas all around Amy to learn the location and color of each of the seven major chakras.

Chakra Rainbows

During our chakra and aura lesson we learned about the healing effects of color and how their energy is a rainbow of colors.  As an example we wrapped colored bandanas around my special Reiki helper, Amy Meyers, to show them the colors of each chakra and the placement.  It was a blast.

Magic Eye Art Project

Jerica with her magic eye art, beautiful!

While I did the individual attunements my Reiki assistants, Amy Meyers and Lauren Holloway both led a Magic Eye art project.  The kids made an almost, full sized mirror image of themselves using their magic eyes.  They closed their eyes to ‘see’ what they look like energetically and then created it on a large piece of paper with glitter, stickers, cut out pieces of paper, tissue paper, crayons and more.  As you can see from the photos they were extremely creative as well as intuitive.

Reiki I Attunements

While the kids worked on the art projects I was in the Reiki room doing attunements and Reiki guide readings.  Each child choose to be attuned to Reiki and each one had a different experience during the attunement.  Some felt tingles, some felt heat, some felt flowing or rocking movement while they were being attuned and some said they just felt love.  I appreciate how everyone feels and reacts to the energy differently.

Makena loves elephants and saw them as her power animal

Every attunement is different for me as well.  With some the energy comes in fast and ready like the child, some comes in slow and hesitant, others calm and peaceful, others come in happy and joyful, but each one feels full of love and creates a very humble feeling of gratitude in me.  I often tear up or even cry because I feel so incredibly grateful that Divine Source has entrusted this mission to me.  I feel so small in comparison and yet so spiritually powerful at the same time.  It is the most amazing feeling to give a Reiki attunement and especially to children.

With children I can often see or feel the immenseness of the ‘mission’ they have ahead of them in this life and feel how spiritually powerful THEY are.  These kids are amazing.  They have a big purpose in this life and a lot to do to prepare themselves.  I feel genuinely honored to be a small part of teaching these children about energy, our Divine and spiritual guides so they hopefully never lose that sense of wonder and that belief that miracles really are possible.  They will so need that as they grow up in this world and doing their best to create positive change.  It’s a huge calling and each time I do an attunement on a child, I am reassured that we are in good hands, that they are truly ready for this task ahead. A truly brilliant feeling.  Working with these amazing kids helps my faith grow each and every time.  What a blessing.

Kayella with her magic eye art, she saw birds as her power animal.

Feeling the Energy

After the attunement we practice FEELING the energy and healing with the Reiki.  Each child and adult makes an energy ball in their hands until they can feel the pressure of something there, something between their hands that is invisible but tangible at the same time.  Some say it feels hot, some tingly, some like a worm crawling in their fingers, but they all feel it.  Then we combine our energy balls and the children took turns standing in the middle of them inside one huge ball of Reiki.  That is always a highlight.  Sometimes we sing beautiful songs to help the energy feel stronger.  The more joy you feel the more the energy runs and the more likely you are to feel it on your body.  This is one of the kids favorite exercises and we do it as often as we can at Kids Reiki circle.

Perfect End to a Perfect Day

Each child receives a Reiki I certificate just like my adult students do but the kids’ certificates have gold stars on them. They are cool!

We handed out the certificates and the kids went home.  I always remind the Reiki adults that it is up to them to continue the Reiki training at home and support their Reiki kid by practicing with them as well as bringing them back once a month to Kids Reiki Circle.  Reinforcement and practice is key to each Reiki kid being confident in their practice and learning of energy.  I’m so excited to see where each of these kids go with their Reiki path.  The options are endless.

Love and Light to all of you wonderful Reiki kids, their parents and my Reiki helpers.  Thank you to each of you for entrusting me to this very important task!

If you are interested in your child taking a Kids’ Reiki class in the Sequim, WA area please call or email me and we’ll plan a class together.  If you are not in the Olympic Peninsula area but want to find a Kids’ Reiki class try Barbara McKells‘ website or talk to a Reiki Master in your area about starting a kids class.  Spread the word that Reiki and Kids go together better than peanut butter and jelly!

Spiritual Group? Anyone, Anyone?

“A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
Margaret Mead

A Spiritual Group

I was recently asked to be a part of a spiritual group that meets from time to time via conference call and once a year at an agreed upon location on the west coast usually.  It is a big commitment but also I felt it was a huge honor to be asked.  This group includes people of many different spiritual belief systems from all over the country.

The more people in a spiritual group, the more powerful the energy, connection to the energy and connection to Divine Source!

Priorities

Because I’m a mom first at this stage in my life by choice, I asked my family if they were willing to support me in the time it would take away from them, extra to the Reiki time that I spend with clients and circles.  They are very supportive of my passion for energy healing and helping others and know how much it means to me to be a part of this group of honored people which includes Shaman’s, energy workers, other Reiki Masters and more spiritually like-minded people.

Meditations

I’ve been with the group a month now and have participated in four conference calls so far.  On the conference call I attended yesterday, June 6th 2012 for the astrological events happening with Venus, we all meditated together on the phone with the intention of a group healing for us as well as a healing for our earth.

Group Energy Amped Up

Kid’s Reiki Circle, before practicing Reiki we do our “Gassho” which is asking Divine Source to be with us and to send down the Reiki energy.

The energy in my Reiki room is great all the time because I focus on it a lot with the intention of healing energy and high vibrational Love and Light energy.  But with the group of spiritually minded people on the phone all with the same purpose, I felt the energy stronger than I had in a long time.  Probably since another group meditation that I had done with a very large group of people many years ago.  I felt the energy of each person in the room with me.  The energy gets amped up the more people we have all with the same intention.  It was decidedly powerful.

A Message

I got a clear message from Divine Source while in that meditative state.  Divine wants us to meet in collections of spiritual people and do this spiritual work together.  Divine wants us to meditate, do Reiki, pray, learn, cry and support each other as often as possible in groups.  This is the way to change our world, this is the way to raise our vibrations faster, sooner.  This is how to truly make a difference in our lives, the earth and everyone around us, by connecting in groups of like-minded individuals consistently.  This is why I offer the Reiki circles twice a month and to children too, because I truly believe and have for a long while that the true way to make a difference in our world of reality is to work together in small, local grassroots types of organizations like our own little Reiki group here in Sequim, WA.

Where? How?

Find a colorful group that you feel comfortable in that has the same values and spiritual beliefs, then participate actively in your own evolution.

If you do not live on the Olympic Peninsula, then find a group in your area to join.  Put the intention out to Divine Source that you want such a group.  Look for a Reiki Master in your area and ask if they run such a group.  Meanwhile, find an on-line group to be a part of.  Join a Reiki Facebook page (Josslyn Streett, Reiki)  or other social networking site that consistently has a positive high vibrational and up lifting message and be a part of it.  Put yourself out there, try something new even if you are a little scared.  I believe you will find that your evolution goes faster, but will also be more rich and fulfilling along the way with spiritual friends along for the ride.

I often find other blogs or articles that say for me what I want to say but can’t seem to put into words.  I found this wonderful, easy to read and well written article about WHY to join a spiritual group, what to look for in a gathering and some tips on starting one of your own if spirit encourages you to do so.  Well worth the time to read it.

Enjoy!  And, I hope to see many of you at Reiki circle!

The Spiritual Group

By Inner Frontier

The truism that no person is an island applies in the spiritual arena even more than it does in the material. From the most ancient times, people have gathered in groups and communities to engage in spiritual practices addressing the Source of life, the Ineffable hidden beyond our senses. Monasteries and other spiritual communities bring seekers together to live in a protected and conducive environment. In lay or non-monastic environments, the work of the congregation, the sangha, the minyan, and the halka offer spiritual brotherhood and sisterhood within the context of life in the greater community.

Why has this always been the case? Primarily because the spiritual community or group multiplies, empowers, and reinforces the efforts of the individual. Meditation, prayer and other practices, when pursued in a group or community, qualitatively and quantitatively magnify what each person can offer and experience. The coalescence of the group into a shared will and shared consciousness in communal practice creates a greater spiritual whole that enhances individual possibilities. The vehicle of the spiritual group or community carries all its individual participants to far greater spiritual depths than they could typically reach on their own. The group serves as a container for energies and as a reminder of the sacred. Each person in the group or community helps all the others by their very presence and by their orientation toward the Divine, toward love.

In business and other life endeavors, people form alliances and partnerships to create much more than they possibly could by themselves. In the spiritual endeavor, the same holds. We can join forces, share our hearts’ search for the spirit, and help each other climb the mountain of transformation.

Nevertheless, spiritual groups and communities often succumb to pitfalls. Some principles to consider in the work of a spiritual group or community include the following.

1. Equality in Relation to the Divine

In the most basic sense, we are all beggars and beginners in the spiritual path. In the face of Divinity, we are all equal, equally children of the Will of the World. This bedrock principle must pervade the work of any spiritual group. Elders, teachers and those with more experience of the path, if their inner work has been rightly conducted, will, through their genuine humility and respect for others, exhibit an implicit assumption of equality in all their relationships, including with people in the spiritual group or community. We all serve the same Source.

2. Shared Vision

For a group to function well, the members must agree on the path and methods to be studied and followed. Without some commonality of technique and direction, the group will (or should) be short-lived.

3. Peer Group Versus Having a Leader

The question of leadership in a spiritual group raises complex and difficult issues. If there is to be a leader, it must be someone with consistently deeper experience in the path than the rest of the group; otherwise the leaderless peer group offers a more appropriate form. Kindness and non-attachment form two more qualities required in a group leader. Without these, history teaches us that spiritual leaders tend to grow abusive, emotionally, sexually, and financially, or they demand loyalty to themselves and their particular path rather than loyalty to the Divine and to the great community of all life. The leader must inspire trust in his or her goodwill, and confidence in his or her wisdom and knowledge of the path. Condescension, a patronizing attitude, an air of being special, abuse of power, arrogance, and insults do not characterize an effective spiritual leader, regardless of the pious justifications and excuses offered for such behavior. The essence of the role of the spiritual mentor is to share his or her passion for the path and to instill confidence in the possibility of realization.

More subtly, we can look at the leader’s role in terms of the three aspects of will: active, passive, and reconciling or synergistic. The great temptation of a spiritual leader is to play an active role, with the students being passive or receptive to the leader’s lead. This causes many, hard-to-recognize problems. It feeds the leader’s ego, as do the group members by fawning over him or her. Then the group builds an ego around the leader, instead of fostering humility. It robs initiative from the group members, for whom initiative in their own inner work is crucial. The group members become dependent upon the leader’s judgments of them, on the leader’s criticism or praise. This stifles real progress. A truly effective group fosters freedom and individuality in the group members, an individuality that forms the basis of service and surrender to the Divine.

The alternative to the active leader is the reconciling or synergistic leader, neither active nor passive, but both and more. Such a leader, in his or her being and in his or her teaching, points the way toward the Sacred, while leaving room for the group members to be active and work from their own initiative. The qualities of humility, lightness of touch, and non-judging, as well as a deep understanding of the spiritual path and a living, thriving connection to the Sacred characterize the ideal leader.

The leaderless peer group can operate by consensus. If the group spends time speaking about experiences and efforts in the path, then what each person shares must be treated with respect. If the members of the group analyze, criticize, offer advice, or make suggestions in response to another member, they risk poisoning the atmosphere of the group. For honesty and sincerity to prevail, an environment of trust and respect must be developed and protected. Peer group members should limit what they share to relating their own experiences and efforts, and not stray into playing the spiritual mentor. No one can do the spiritual work of another. Guidance, to be effective, must be asked for, not offered gratuitously. In a peer group, guidance can come from hearing the efforts, successes, and failures of the other members of the group.

Both forms, the peer group and the led group, have their place and can greatly accelerate the inner work of the members of the group. In the earlier stages of the path, having a leader offers important benefits. In the first years, we need to be taught the methods by someone who understands them. We need to be nudged back onto the path when we stray. We need to recognize the limits of our own understanding and be willing to ask for and receive guidance. This promotes humility and insulates us from that bane of spiritual work: arrogance. We also need confirmation of our understanding, so our confidence and self-reliance can grow. However, a led group requires a leader with the characteristics described above. Lacking such a person, the peer group can be an excellent alternative.

4. Frequency of Gathering

Living in a genuine spiritual community that works and practices together confers the blessings of a powerful, traditional way toward the spirit. Few of us, though, exhibit a willingness to become monks or nuns. Furthermore, living full-time in a spiritual community does not constitute the best approach for everyone. It depends on one’s temperament and style.

Retreats convey the advantages of life in a spiritual community on a temporary basis. Periodic retreats, in which we focus entirely on the work of presence, deepening awareness, and opening our heart, can prove enormously beneficial in reinvigorating our inner work.

In our normal life situation, a weekly group meeting, attended regularly, offers an external reminder, a source of energy, and a shared commitment, enabling us to maintain our practice in the face of life’s many distractions and pressures. In certain respects, this creates the ideal circumstance. We need great determination to continuously return to our practice in the midst of family, job, community, and other responsibilities. Life becomes our training ground. If our spiritual practice can flower within the challenge of normal life, our practice will grow strong indeed, our hearts open, and our lives transformed.

Practice in the special environment of a retreat or a spiritual community can usher us into deep experiences, tastes of the true spirit. Yet when we return to our normal life, those experiences gradually fade, while thankfully leaving a residue of purification and commitment. Practice in everyday life, however, can bring lasting transformation. Daily progress may not be as dramatic and rapid as during a retreat, but can be more permanent. Gradually, the path and our life merge, so that our life is our path, carrying us toward the opening of our hearts and the Great Source of All.

5. The Structure of the Group Meeting: Practice and Sharing

The spiritual group, to be effective, devotes time to both shared practice and shared discussion. A group which does not meditate, pray, or engage in some other collective spiritual practice misses the remarkable opportunity. Discussion alone, even of the most profound, heartfelt and weighty topics, rarely touches our soul. Discussion alone does not serve the transformation of energies and the purification of will in the way that shared practice can.

Group practice alone, however, may not illumine certain valuable details of the path. For this, the group needs shared discussion. The discussion, though, must not be solely theoretical: it should focus on the details of practice, how one actually practices, what obstacles one encounters, what helps, what experiments one tries, what new insights come, and so forth. If each person in the group describes such living details of their own spiritual efforts, every person in the group benefits thereby. Everyone can relate what the speaker articulates to their own life and path. A theoretical discussion of ideas rarely has such an impact.

Like every individual, each spiritual group or community is unique, and will have its own style, its own lifecycle. But all genuinely spiritual groups and communities support the transformation of their members and enable them to serve in a deeper way than would be possible on their own. If we are fortunate enough to participate in a spiritual group that suits our needs and our taste, well and good. If not, perhaps we can find one other person to share our practice with, forming a group of two. Otherwise, we do our best to pursue our spiritual practice on our own: for this also is possible and necessary. No one else can free us; no one else can do our inner work for us. But we can help each other.

Being the Bridge!

Today I added a video by Tom Lescher, Astrologer extraordinaire to my Face Book page.  Love his posts.  Watch them every week now and it always seems like he’s talking directly to me, my life, what’s going on in my life.  ITS ALL ABOUT ME!!  Sorry, a bit of a narcissistic moment there.  I am the Goddess and the Center of MY Universe and I’m fine and good with that.  But, this is about you all, right!?  (another blog I guess)  Back on track, really, It’s amazing how he does it.  He is no newspaper astrologer that’s for sure.  I liked his quote this week and I felt a need to write a little something about it and how it applies to my life as a Reiki teacher and all of our lives as a humans on the healing highway of life.

“I am the bridge between the imagined and the real.  When I follow through I truly heal.”  Tom Lescher

What does that mean?  It speaks to me because I do truly feel like a bridge for people from the “real” to what they think is the imagined life.  However, to me it is the other way around.  The spiritual world gets more and more real and less and less imagined the more time I spend there.  (Have you seen “The Matrix?”)  In fact it is just as real as the “real” world.  The more time you spend doing Reiki, meditating, praying, dreaming and other activities that take you to your spiritual place, the more you realize that they are real and “reality,”  not so much.

Also, the more time I spend in the spiritual world the more neutral I can be to the drama of the Earth plane and the high emotions that go on here.  (had no idea I was headed in this direction) Some may feel this is not a good thing, a disconnect from reality.  Whatever, they are entitled to their opinions.  However, I see it as being able to view the Earth and it’s drama from a higher plane, like the eagle, flying above, looking down from a distance.  I always LOVED that Bette Midler song, “From a Distance” for a reason!  She’s gently advising us to look at life from a higher outlook and we are getting new information for it.  Viewing issues from a higher place can give us new and different perspectives to those problems.  It allows us to see even our own drama in a new light, a less emotional light, a less defensive light maybe.

Then, at that point, we can also see solutions.  Actions.  Things we can DO to change our situation on this planet.  When we are so caught up in the emotions only of a situation we have a much harder time of doing this.  I’m not saying emotions are bad.  I’m all for emotions.  They are a fabulous way to release stuff for sure.  But, I’m also saying, there is a time and a place for moving past the emotional release and moving into “what can we do about this now” point.

A new perspective!

That takes us to Tom’s second half of his quote “When I follow through I truly heal.”  This is the grounded, earthy part of the quote, the action, the doing.  The follow through of the plan that you conceived while you were looking at your situation from a higher place.  Being the eagle.  When we are not so embroiled in the turmoil and theatrics going on we are in a much better situation within ourselves to solve an issue rather than just stew in it or “catastrophize” it.  Oh I used to be good at all of it, drama, drama, drama!!  Ask anyone who knew me before I knew energy.  I was a mountain out of a mole hill type of girl.   It has taken time, but I have grown, worked, and changed quite a bit.

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.  Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.  Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.  Education alone will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.  Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.  the slogan “press on” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”  John Calvin Coolidge

One thing that helps me a lot, I’m a DOER.  I may get into a pity party for a while, but never for long.  I figure out what I can DO to make my situation better and I do it.  No fear, no lazing around and waiting for things to get better, no blaming, ok, maybe some blaming, but I do something.

THIS is the time of action.  The energy of 2012 is so ramped up, I can feel it daily.  I can feel the action it is calling for.  I hear the messages Divine is giving me.  The energy is requiring us to take action, change, grow and learn more than ever.  I keep finding myself taking on new projects, new groups, new websites, new blogs, new writings, etc.

The Golden Gate Bridge is one of my most favorite bridges so I included photos of it on this blog. I love how this one is half in the clouds, or the spiritual world, and half in reality. So lovely.

Just knowing, having faith that Divine will be there to support me through it all, I do it all.  So far so good.  When you have faith you have a nice big safety net.  Use it, depend on it.  This is the year you are going to need it.  Because DOING something new and different is the only way this year is going to work out for us all where we raise our vibrations to a point that the energy is not too difficult to handle.  Doing something new and different is the only way, like Tom said, we will truly heal.  Follow through!  If you have recently started yoga, then DO it.  If you are taking a Reiki class, then GO to the circles.  If you have recently started with a new therapist, then do not skip your sessions.  Whatever it is that is a good new habit to help you learn and grow, DO IT.  No excuses.  If you need something healthy and new to help you grow, then pick up the phone and call me.  I’m here to help you keep moving forward.  I’m here to help you on your healing highway.  We’ll keep you at a speed limit you can handle but we’ll keep moving forward.

One of the hardest parts of being a healer is having this knowing that you can help  people……………………. but only if they show up.

What happens if you don’t show up?  Nothing.  Nothing at all.

Love and Light to you all,

Josslyn

(I’m climbing off my soap box now.  LOL)

Another Great Reiki Circle – It’s All Good!

I’d like to thank all the amazing women who came to Reiki circle this month, April 2012 and one amazing Reiki husband, mine!!  You all have such loving and heartfelt energy, you make my “job” a total pleasure.

Ladies, this Transformational Goddess Mandala is for you, artfully painted by Raina Colvin . Raina has amazing mandala's on her website. Beautiful work.

We also had two guests come this month who plan on taking Reiki I at the end of the month.  They wanted to get in on the energy as soon as they could.  I honor your desire to want to start right away and also get a sneak peek at what you will soon be doing.  I can’t wait to hear your thoughts about Reiki energy before AND after the class.  Please feel free to comment directly on this blog so others can learn from your experience.

It is an excellent idea to receive Reiki treatments before your first class.  It is not required of course, but highly recommended.  I believe it makes the transition into energy smoother and even more spiritual for each individual person.  Mentally, you get an idea of what is coming, how one gives and receives Reiki and some of the process we go through in order to channel the Reiki energy.  When you learn this in the class, it is no longer completely and totally new to you.  It has familiarity, thus, you may take it in easier.  The Reiki treatment before an attunement also helps to prepare your chakras and spiritual bodies for the attunement process.  In some cases this can help people accept the channeling of the Reiki energy for the first time much easier.  It may help to release blockages that you didn’t even know were there.  However, I feel each persons path is unique and many do not need or desire to have a private session or go to a circle before their first attunement and for them, that is the perfect path.  Whatever we do in our Reiki journey is perfect for us.  It’s all good.  That’s what I love about it.  It’s literally, ALL GOOD!

Ellen O., Pat, Mandy, and Joss work on Ellen R. while Robert takes the photo. The energy of the group ramps up the energy in the room and the healing that takes place is amazing every time.

What I also truly love about Reiki is the excitement I felt in the beginning when I was first learning, it has only grown, not diminished like many things do.  It gets more and more amazing to me the more I learn.  How many careers can you say that about?  Plenty I’m sure, but not any others that I have had.  PLEASE comment if your career is more exciting to you now than it was when you started over six years or more ago!!!  And do tell us what that career is.  Thank you all for participating in this energy blog, the circle and our universe!  Love and Light to you all!

How do I stop this roller coaster I’m on?!

DO YOU FEEL LIKE 2012 IS A HUGE, FAST MOVING, SOMETIMES VERY SCARY ROLLER COASTER RIDE?

The roller coaster of 2012

then read on…..because TODAY, March 18th thru the 24th we are on the really high ramp of the roller coaster getting ready to plunge to the earth as Mercury conjunct with Uranus, watch out………………….

I don’t do astrology, have no idea how, but I do enjoy reading a good astrology report now and again.  My friend Ellen turned me onto Tom Lescher’s Facebook page and he does videos on You Tube that are great too.  So far he’s cool and pretty right on for how I’ve been feeling lately.  I always go with my intuition and don’t always know what’s going on with the planets to back up my feelings until I read a report like this one on Tom’s Facebook page by Palona Somrak.

I’ve been talking to a lot of my clients lately about the feeling of being on a roller coaster.  The energy this year, 2012, is fast and furious.  We are being tested over and over again.  We are feeling the energy push down upon us, putting pressure on us, making life more difficult and/or more busy than usual.  Why is it doing this you ask?  So we can LEARN! It’s all good!

LOVE this movie! Steve Martin is a father who does not like being on the roller coaster, but his Nana LOVES it! It's so much fun.

The roller coaster I get from one of my favorite movies with Steve Martin, “Parenthood”.  Grandma in the movie says about a roller coaster ride to Steve Martin’s character, “You know, it was just so interesting to me that a ride could make me so frightened, so scared, so sick, so excited, and so thrilled all together! Some didn’t like it. They went on the merry-go-round. That just goes around. Nothing. I like the roller coaster. You get more out of it.”

Back then, I personally didn’t like being on roller coasters that much.  I was more like the Steve Martin character.  But, lately, with my trust and faith in the Divine, and some life experience, I like it and am grateful for it.  I can now see it for what it is, as I’m moving up and down those waves of terror.  While on the roller coaster we may get sick to our stomachs, we may throw up our hands and scream with joy for the wild ride or we may be apathetic and ignore it all.  It’s up to us.  It really is.  We are in a time of major change.  We can either fight the change, try to ignore it and pretend it isn’t going on and make things harder on ourselves and those around us or we can throw our hands up, surrender to the change and scream with joy, or fright.  Either way, the surrender is what’s important.

Surrender to the coaster, throw your arms up and scream with joy, or fear, but at least you're living!

How do we do this you may ask?

Good question.  All I can tell you is how I do this and hopefully it will help you.  When a challenge comes up that makes you angry, frustrated, stressed or even furious, STOP YOURSELF.

  1. Stop – Recognizing the behavior is the first step to stopping it.  If you can stop and recognize it then you can….
  2. Look at it – instead of pushing it down inside you where you’ve always put it because it is socially unacceptable, look at it.  Everyone in our lives is a mirror for us, good or bad.  I say there is no bad because looking at ourselves in a way that will create change is hard but still VERY GOOD!  THAT is the roller coaster.
  3. Feel it…..what does it feel like, why is it so scary and horrible?  Is it really that bad?  Did it serve you when you were young but don’t need it anymore?  Once past this point you can then…..
  4. Accept it and realize that it really isn’t so bad.  Usually we have these defense mechanisms set up to protect us from something when we are younger.  Many times they served us well then, but are not needed in that capacity now.
  5. Thank it, thank the socially unacceptable behavior for helping you all these years, let it know you no longer need it and are choosing to move on in a new and healthier fashion.  Surround it in Love and Light and Reiki energy.  Allow it to move to the Light and be transformed into Love once again.  Gratitude is an important part of all spiritual processes!  Practice it regularly!
  6. Stop denying it.  Denial will get you NO WHERE and fast, like being on the merry go round.  Denial will get you doing this again, in another body, for a whole other life until you do get it.  Do you really want to do this same lesson, this same life all over again?  wouldn’t you rather move on to another adventure!?
  7. Healthy Activities – Let go of the activities that do not serve your higher purpose (I won’t list those, YOU know what they are!) and add in activities that do, such as; meditation, gratitude, prayer, Reiki circle and Reiki sessions, exercise, tummy breathing, journaling, reading uplifting books, etc.  Do these activities with an intention to LET GO of the behaviors that no longer serve you.  With intention added, you’ll be surprised how much this helps.
  8. Go for Reiki – Call me, someone on my links page or someone you trust who does Reiki, IEH or energy healing.  A qualified practitioner can help you release the really deep and tough stuff.  If you do not feel better after an energy healing session then look for a new practitioner.  You want to feel better each and every time you leave.  I go to others regularly for help with MY tough stuff.  They help so much with the really difficult denials.
  9. Take a Reiki class– Empower yourself, learn how to heal yourself, your family, your pets and your friends!  I teach all these techniques in my sessions, classes and circles.
You may change the order of these steps to suit you but this is basically how I do it each and every time I come up against a behavior of mine that I no longer wish to work with,  (anger, denial, jealousy, guilt, hurting others in any way, lack of self-confidence, frustration, impatience, etc.).  the behaviors that no longer serve me.  Yes, I’m human, ALL HEALERS ARE HUMAN.  We still have Unbuddha-like moments.  How else would we be able to help others if we did not go through the process ourselves?
"Unbuddha-like moment" by The Great Cosmic Happy-Ass Card Co.! LOVE THEM TOO!
Try it, see if it doesn’t make the roller coaster a bit (or a lot) more fun.  Make the journey an adventure!  Please comment and let me know how it’s working for you.  And, call me or email me if you need some support in the process.  THAT IS WHAT I DO!  I support you along your personal healing journey.

Astrology Forecast for March, 2012
by Palona Somrak
“The month of March will be a lot easier for you if you just pretend that you have boarded the high-speed bullet train that gets you to your destination at hundreds of miles per hour (whether you are late or not!). This is a month where our nervous systems are undergoing a great cosmic cleanse. It is an opportunity to rid ourselves of all the shaky, old, outworn mental patterns that are no longer serving us. Beyond that, we will have an opportunity to purge immature emotional patterns lingering from lifetimes gone by that are preventing us from fully realizing our potential.
