I love stories that ‘show’ us the possibilities of Reiki healing. One of my favorite Reiki books all around is ‘Animal Reiki’ by Elizabeth Fulton and Kathleen Prasad. It’s full of so many great Reiki and animal stories that just open you up to SO MANY healing possibilities and really show you what you + Reiki are fully capable of doing. Remember, Reiki is healing energy that comes from a benevolent and intelligent Source. So, it knows exactly what each of us needs and wants AND more importantly, what we are ready to heal. SO ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!
The only limitations to Reiki healing is our soul’s free will (what our soul knows we are ready, willing and able to heal and release today) AND mostly, our human blocks and fears. Doing Reiki on animals, because they are usually quicker to be ready to heal than humans, can be exciting to show us what is possible with Reiki. Animals usually have less blocks and fears to healing than humans do so they start showing healing changes more quickly, usually.
This book has SO many good stories. I’d like to share one with you to ‘wet your whistle’ and hope you will want to read more. Please do not do Reiki on wild animals and allow your own pets to choose how they want to take Reiki. So, I typically will start a Reiki session hands OFF and allow the animal to come to me. Please overall, RESPECT the animals.

THE WAITING STAG
By Elizabeth Fulton
“One day as I was coming in from the car carrying groceries, I encountered a deer in our entry courtyard. It is not unusual to find deer there. The herd that lives in my neighborhood knows that I am fond of them and that they are safe here. But this deer, a young stag who had just shed his antlers, was unfamiliar to me, and he was standing there with a very purposeful expression on his face, as though he had been waiting for me.
He looked directly at me and held up his left rear leg. When I didn’t immediately comprehend his message, he turned around and licked the area above his hind hoof several times. Sure enough, there was a half-dollar-size chunk of flesh missing, with a deep puncture in the middle of the wound, and the area was red, swollen and infected. From the pronounced limp he showed when he took a couple of steps, I could tell it was extremely painful.
I put my groceries in the kitchen, sat down on the doorstep and offered him Reiki. Almost immediately I felt a strong flow of Reiki energy. The young stag stood facing me for a while, then shifted so that the injured leg was the part of his body closest to me. Gradually his head lowered and his eyes half-closed as he relaxed into a semi-dozing “Reiki state,” the injured leg twitching occasionally.
It was a chilly day, and only a small patch of sun shone into the entry courtyard. Several times during the treatment the stag roused himself from his half-dozing state and moved over to the patch of sunlight as it shifted around the courtyard, carefully positioning his injured leg closest to me each time. This continued for an hour, at which point I had to end the treatment because of an appointment. I was honored that this young deer had come to me for healing.
The next day I found him waiting for me- twice! Each time I was able to put everything aside and sit down and offer him Reiki. During the first treatment, some neighborhood dogs started barking menacingly nearby and he bounded off, but several hours later he was back, ready to resume his treatment. Each time his head went down and he entered a relaxed “Reiki state” more quickly than he had the previous treatment. The deer came for daily treatments for the next several weeks, missing only days when there were heavy rains or carpenters at work in the courtyard. A month later his wound had healed and his limp had disappeared, but he continued to come for short treatments every few days, apparently greatly enjoying the experience of a Reiki treatment and understanding its healing action.”
Josslyn again- The intuition and wisdom of animals touch me to my core. They are fabulous Reiki teachers. Give it a GO! Allow the animal the choice to have Reiki. I learned through this book, sit near by and in the Gassho (prayer of intention) OFFER the Reiki to the animal/s and say something like “they may take as much, as little or none of the Reiki I offer, it’s up to them.” Then put your hands on your lap facing up and feel/visualize/have a knowing of the Reiki flowing to the space. The animal choose it in there way. I have had animals climb into my lap, lay next to my lap or feet, lay on the other side of the room, in the hallway or even ‘snub’ me and walk into the other room. But, even from the other room I felt them taking the Reiki and I felt when they were done. Respect the animal first and foremost and they will be great a client and teacher for you.
Reiki Blessings to you all,
Josslyn
