Reiki On A Harbor Seal

I recently went to the beautiful and mystical Orcas Island in the chain of the San Juan Islands in the Pacific North West where I live.  I went for a sound healing conference with the equally amazing sound healer, Tom Kenyon.  I’ll write a blog about him soon.  The conference didn’t start until 1pm so I had some time (sans children) to myself.  Each day I’d take a nice walk about the Rosario Resort and Spa grounds and just take in the fresh and alive island energy.  Even though I’ve lived on the Olympic Peninsula for six years now, and I look at the San Juan Island chain out my living room window every day, I had yet to go to the Islands, any of them.  This trip to Orcas Island was my first jaunt and totally worth the day trip with two ferry rides to get there.

On the last morning of the conference on a walk, I went the regular route I’d been taking with a few changes in course but the same basic scenic locales.  One of the great spots is a viewing spot near the main hotel but off to the side on an overlook and viewing one of the other islands, Shaw Island.  But, on this day, on the rocks just below the overlook about 50 feet from me and down on the rocks was a small harbor seal.  His body was positioned vertically from me with his head away looking at the other island.  When he felt me he looked up at me for a little while, then pretty much dismissed me as not needing his attention and went back to what he was doing, resting on the rock.  Me, thinking Reiki 24/7 , I thought, I’ll send him some Reiki to say Hi.

Sending Reiki to a Seal

Happy seal smile
Happy seal smile

With my hands in the prayer position asking Divine Source for the Reiki to flow and my Reiki guides of the Highest Order to come and help, I also added “and please let the seal know, he may take as much, as little or none of the Reiki, it is totally up to him.”  Over the years of sending Reiki to animals, I have found this to be the most important guidance I received from Kathleen Prasad’s book, “Animal Reiki.”  Respect the animal by giving them the choice.   The animals respond in a much more favorable way if they are given a choice in the matter.  Then I sent the Reiki to him by beaming it from my eyes.  (I simply intend for the Reiki to flow from my eyes and it does.)  I started chanting in my head, all the Reiki symbols I have from Master/Teacher symbols down to Reiki II symbols and then my Karuna Reiki symbols too.  I’d chant each one three or five times depending upon how many I felt was needed, then would move on to the next symbol.

Checking Out The Reiki

At first the seal looked at my like “What is that?”  Seriously, that is the exact thought that came to me telepathically, from him.  Then I felt like he was feeling the Reiki and ‘checking it out.’ After a couple of minutes of not being sure, he all of a sudden got a very content and happy look on his face and looked at me to let me know he liked it.  He was away from me, so he had to swing his head around to do this.  He kept looking at me while I sent Reiki.  And, I would swear he had a smile on his face.  He particularly liked when I was chanting and sending the Mental/Emotional Reiki Symbol (SHK).  After feeling the energy of this symbol he’d get a little irritated when I’d switch to another symbol.

Why'd You Stop?
Why’d You Stop?             I did not have my camera with me that morning so these are not my little Reiki buddy but still just as sweet.

So, I went back to SHK.  Just to test it out, I left that symbol and went to chanting another.  Once again, he got annoyed and gave me a sharp look to let me know his preference.  I did this two or three times to check if what I was feeling with his emotions was correct and sure enough each time I’d switch away he’d look at me sharply and tell me to go back.  So, I listened and trusted and chanted only SHK until he told me otherwise.  At that point he started flipping his flippers up and down in joy, moving around like he was dancing and showing definite signs of happiness.  The smile was back.

Let Animals Guide the Reiki Session Themselves

Then he started moving around towards me more so he could see me and I could easily see his whole body.  He stretched out in front of me and started directing me to other parts of his body where he now wanted me to send Reiki.  He would let me know which symbol he liked in which area by his facial expressions, movements and his emotions that he was sending me telepathically.  This is exactly what cats and dogs do too!  I was enthralled.   I felt he wanted the Power Symbol (CKR) at his root chakra area so I chanted that and focused my eyes on that part of his body.  He seemed content for a while so I kept doing this until he gave me a different signal.

Invaders!!

At that point, two other walkers from the hotel came and joined us and started oohing and awing over the sighting of the seal.  I’d been sending the seal Reiki for about ten to 15 minutes or so at this point.  He looked at them curiously but then went back to directing me to his Reiki needed spots.  I trusted my intuition that he was telling me where he wanted it and which symbol he wanted and continued for a little while.  After about another five minutes of enjoying the Reiki he turned his back to me, started looking at me in an annoyed fashion instead of the blissful, happy one he’d had earlier.  I suddenly felt like a space invader that was not wanted instead of the joy and gratitude I had felt earlier.   I took the hint that he was done, stopped the Reiki, thanked him for allowing me to send it and went on my way.  I looked back and he was slinking his way to the water and leaving.

HOW to Send Reiki to Wild Animals

First of all let me just say, with wild animals, first and foremost make sure you are in a safe place or a safe distance.  They are still wild and unpredictable.  Second, you might want to start by practicing on animals who are friendly with you, like pets.  Then just practice.  Get the trust and the knowing of practicing with pets first.

  • Give the animal the option of saying “No thank you” to the Reiki.
  • Send them Reiki with no intention of your own.
  • Have no time line, just go with the flow.
  • Be flexible, allow the animal to guide the session.
  • Say Thank you when they are done.
  • Move on and respect their privacy.

Seal Totem

I was so grateful to see and connect with my seal buddy.  Living here and walking the beaches for six years I’ve only seen a seal one other time, so I knew this event was important.  I went back to my condo and looked up seal in my “Animal Spirit Guide” book by Dr. Steven Farmer, my handy book that I take with me every where I go.  Here is what seal has to offer if you see one; in person, in a dream or in a meditation vision:  (Choose the ones that apply to you at that time.)

  • Your creative imagination is active and fertile right now, so keep a journal nearby and write in it every day.
  • Your dreams will be very clear and vivid, so pay close attention to them for any messages from your subconscious.
  • The cycle of challenges and hardship is complete, and you’re now moving into a time of plenty and abundance.
  • Although it’s an emotional time for you, you’re quite comfortable experiencing these feelings while at the same time staying grounded.
  • This is a time to stay attuned to your natural rhythms, such as sleeping when you’re tired, eating only when you’re hungry, and exercising when you feel the urge to do so.

Two Seals in One Day

HarborSealWavingBecause I’m a natural cynic, and because I already knew I wanted to write a blog about this experience, I asked my Reiki Guides for some sort of SIGN that I was indeed sending Reiki to and communicating with this seal.  I got my clear sign later at the Tom Kenyon sound healing session.  Each day there would be three sessions with a thirty minute break in between.  During the breaks we were completely silent and recommended by Tom that we walk or sit on the earth and contemplate or write in our journals.  For the first time of the sessions, I chose to walk by the marina area instead of the beach or the grass area as I had in other sessions.  As I was walking, a harbor seal swam by, waved his fin at me, swam a bit more and then dove under and was gone.  Quick as can be.  I looked around me and only two other people were looking and pointing in the direction of the seal.  I knew this was my sign and thanked the seal and my guides.  Doesn’t get much clearer than that.

Why Communicate with Wild Animals?

We are at a critical time in our human existence where we need to make peace with our planet and the creatures that live with us on it.  We need to empathically feel our planet and the life on it as alive and equally as important as our human lives.  We are truly all connected and by telepathic communication we can emotionally connect to the animals and the planet in ways we haven’t done in this life before, or for many lifetimes.  I believe we all did at one time.  Reconnecting to the ability to talk to the animals, the rivers, the mountains, the rocks, valleys and even the moon and stars, is all vitally important now.  It allows us to truly FEEL CONNECTED to the whole.

Wake Up!

I am seeing more and more people ‘wake up’ to this possibility, this need.  I am feeling clients coming to me who are very psychic people, who have these abilities naturally already, they just need to know it and practice with it.  With a little bit of mentoring and practice they will soon be teaching others to talk to our planet too.  This is the snowball effect that will save our planet, our animals and thus save ourselves and our souls.  Yes, talking to animals again is vitally important to all of us.

Reiki Blessings to you all,

Congratulations August 2014 Reiki I Class!!

By Josslyn Streett, Reiki Master/Teacher for Rain Shadow Reiki in Sequim, WA

I've gotta say, I think Lynn wins for best face making
I’ve gotta say,  Lynn wins for best face making!

YOU KNOW WE HAD FUN WITH THIS CLASS!!  You can tell by the photo what a an enthusiastic and energetic class this was.  Congratulations to Lynn, Dick, Sharon M., Sharon R., Ulia, Jerry and Milton!!

This class had wonderful questions, and questioning of technique and ideas so that I had to dig deep into my spiritual experience to answer many of them.  Lets just say, I believe I told ALL my stories during this class.  And, we only went over by half an hour.  Not bad.  We had so many questions on the parking lot that I’ll have to write four or five blogs to answer them.  Seriously, a fabulous group of people.

Have I said it lately, I LOVE LOVE LOVE TEACHING REIKI!!  I’ll post more photos on Facebook if you’d like to see them or share them, but here are my favorites.

ReikiI8-28-14,2It was Sharon M.’s idea to do some Reiki drumming to help Milton and Jerry connect with their spirit guides. She was listening to her intuition and she was right ON!  I always love when I get to mix it up and do something different for a class. This was powerful and helpful. Connection was made!  It was awesome, different from what I normally do in class during the spirit guide meditation but it worked beautifully.

Ok, here we are looking all nice and 'normal.' We are happy and grateful for the class.
Ok, here we are looking all nice and ‘normal.’ We are happy and grateful for the class.

I’m so amped up from this class, I can’t go to sleep yet.  I feel so grateful for the path I am on.  I cannot think of anything else in this world I’d rather do than hang out with very cool spiritual people talking about Reiki, drumming, learning about chakras, spirit guides, helping and healing people, it’s all too good to be true.  But, it is true, it’s my life and I’m incredibly blessed.  THANK YOU TO ALL OF MY AMAZING AND LOVING REIKI STUDENTS!  I LOVE YOU ALL!!

Such love pouring out of this class today makes me full of love and wanting to share it.

Reiki Blessings to you all,

Hummingbird Reiki – Reiki That ANYONE Has Time For!!

By Josslyn Streett, Reiki Master/Teacher for Rain Shadow Reiki in Sequim, WA

IT’S ALL GOOD!

I teach in Reiki I that there is no wrong way to do Reiki.  IT’S ALL GOOD!!  JUST DO IT!!  Are some of my favorite ‘catch’ phrases.  If we make a ‘mistake’ while doing Reiki, we can always learn something from it, and therefore, it was not a mistake.  However, even by NOT doing Reiki we are learning how we feel when we do not do it.HummingbirdBlueFlitting

This doesn’t work as well if the person doesn’t practice Reiki from the start though, because they never get a chance to feel how good it feels while actually doing Reiki practice.

So, it is my focus as a teacher to motivate my students to DO daily Reiki, every day for the first month after their class, both to create the habit, but also so they can FEEL a difference that Reiki makes in their lives.  I have seen this work quite well with many people.  However, everyone is different and there are many different reasons people stop practicing their Reiki.  Each person is an individual, it helps a lot if I can have a one on one session with them to FEEl in them, why they are not being successful with their Reiki practice.  This was the case with my client, Nancy.

HUMMINGBIRD CLIENT

My client, Nancy, has been coming to me for Reiki sessions for over a year for pain in her body and stress relief.  She also became a student of Reiki and has come to some Reiki Circles so she could work on herself in between our sessions. She felt an extreme difference in the beginning when she did Reiki on herself every day and had mini-miracles happening in her life on a weekly basis. Then, she hit her busy season and stopped her daily Reiki practice.  Nancy owns her own business and works very hard at it and loves it.  But, often times, she finds herself working too much at a job that is very physical and hard on her body.  Reiki and meditation help her to support her body while keeping up a challenging schedule.

Even hummingbirds sit and rest now and then.
Even hummingbirds sit and rest now and then.

PRIVATE SESSION

While working on Nancy’s heart chakra I received some information about why consistent Reiki self-healing has been a struggle for her.  My guides told me that Nancy is a very busy and active kind of person, doing a full half hour session feels like too much for her to do.  She likes to be busy, and active and not sit still for long.  She’s a doer.  I admire this, would love to be more this way at times so I can admire her for her great enthusiasm for her work and life.  She loves it and has great passion.  However, she also meditates and enjoys the benefits of Reiki and down time too.  But, when it comes to Reiki, a full half hour or more session on herself just seems too overwhelming for her.  She created a belief in her subconscious mind that Reiki must be done in half hour self-healing sessions. Probably because that is how we do it in Reiki I class.  But, if we remember first and foremost, THERE IS NO WRONG, then we can retrain our belief systems to do Reiki in any way that works for us.  Let me repeat that, WE CAN DO REIKI IN ANY WAY THAT WORKS FOR US!!  This is what I explained to Nancy and she said “Oh yes, I’m a hummingbird.  I flit from flower to flower.  That will work much better.”  I said “Ok, we’ll call your Reiki, hummingbird Reiki for you.  And, maybe others would like to try it this way too.”

HOW TO DO HUMMINGBIRD REIKI

Simple, remember that you can do Reiki in little bits that fit into your life and your schedule.  Instead of doing all the hand positions like in a 30 minute self treatment, just do one or two of the most important areas.  Trust your intuition on where you need it most in that moment and do it.  REMEMBERING to do it and start this habit may be the most difficult part.  Do what you need to do, to keep Reiki in the forefront of your mind while creating this new habit.  A string or rubber band around the wrist is a good reminder and an easy one for at least the first month or until you feel the habit has been engrained within your subconscious.

Make any small moment in time a chance to do self Reiki practice:HummingbirdOrangeFlitting

  • Reiki when you are waiting for the gas to finish pumping
  • Reiki while in the line while waiting to pick up your kids at school
  • Reiki on yourself while posting on Facebook.  Just let it flow.
  • Reiki  to calm your nerves or settle a tension headache before a stressful event
  • Reiki on your sacral or solar plexus while you are using the facilities for a minute or two, or three
  • Reiki while watching T.V. or listening to music
  • Reiki while you meditate or do yoga
  • Reiki on your kids while they are arguing in the other room. (Reiki them through the walls until they stop or calm down.)
  • Reiki yourself while your kids are arguing in the next room.  (LOL  Either one is good for you.)
  • Reiki beamed at yourself from your hands resting on your lap while waiting for a client or prospect to come in. A very subtle way to do Reiki on yourself in public places.
  • Reiki yourself while waiting at your table for your food to be brought out.
  • Reiki on yourself while you have a 15 minute break at work.
  • Reiki while on hold waiting for a customer service rep.  Chances are you’ll need to be very calm by the time they come on the phone.

We have endless amounts of bits of time in between our busy moments where we can do 5 minute or less Reiki on ourselves.  ITS ALL GOOD!!  Even five minutes, built up here and there, can do a lot.

“Any Reiki is better than no Reiki at all!!”  Josslyn Streett, just said that!!

Remember, if it truly is ALL GOOD and we truly can do NO WRONG, then what you can do with your Reiki ability is endless.  If you have other ideas on how to do some Hummingbird Reiki or have examples of how you HAVE done this, please share with us here in the comments section.  We all learn from each other.

Many Reiki Blessings to Nancy for allowing me to share her story and to all of you for reading, commenting and DOING REIKI!!  Even the smallest actions towards Love and Light are powerful!!

In Love and Light,

Josslyn

Writing with Reiki

By Josslyn Streett, Reiki Master/Teacher for Rain Shadow Reiki in Sequim, WA

If you want to skip the story and get right to the HOW, scroll down to the HOW.  Otherwise, we learn a lot from other people’s stories, enjoy mine.

WRITING HISTORY

Both my parents were teachers.  My mom in particular helped me extensively with research papers in middle school and high school.  (Thank you mom and Happy Mother’s Day!!) We didn’t know it back then but I am what doctors now call A.D.D. or A.D.H.D.  I rarely remember anything that I don’t use on a daily basis and can’t follow written instructions to save my life.  ( I didn’t know it then, but I have the perfect intuitive brain for what I do now as an energy healer.)

Here is the only photo I have of me studying through all my school days. But, hey, there is my trusty typwriter
Me in college,  the only photo I have of me studying through all my school days. But, hey, there is my trusty typewriter and my research paper next to it.  The Coke was a joke, but we did drink a lot of it back then.

However, research papers were something I could do and do well.  It just required long hours of work.  Long hours of work, that I could do.  And, I got very good at it.  So, my mom and I would spend days, weekends, weeks even, filling out note cards with information from the Encyclopedia Britannica or other books we would check out from the library on my current topic.  (Sorry, no computers back then.)  We would make a bibliography and then put it all together in one grand paper.  I’d type it up (on a typewriter of course!) and I’d get an A, mainly because my papers were well written, but also longer and more extensive than any others in the class.  I put in the work and in the end, got very good at the process.  This saved me in college where I graduated with honors, again not because I was the brightest bulb in the lamp but one of the hardest working for sure.

TODAY’S PROCESS WITH REIKI

Today I am encouraged to share with you HOW I work with Reiki and my Reiki guides to do my blog writing to maybe encourage others of you to do your own writing with Reiki.  Reiki enhances ANY creative process that we do by offering Higher Guidance, Divine access to information and ideas and timing that will relate to the people who need to be reached at the exact time they need to be reached.

One of Archangel Gabriel's specialties is creativity. Call on Archangel Gabriel to help you get motivated or any aspect of writing you need help with.
One of Archangel Gabriel’s specialties is creativity. Call on Archangel Gabriel to help you get motivated or any aspect of writing you need help with.

Blogs are great for this process because I could write a blog to be read by one person now, the person who my guides encouraged me to write the blog for initially.  But then, years later, another person will find my blog and read it and it will speak to them as well.  It will be just what they needed to read.  Their guides help them find my blog on the internet even when they weren’t researching Reiki.  I’ve heard this from my clients many times over, “I don’t even know how your page popped up, I wasn’t even researching Reiki, but it did and I read it.  It was exactly what I needed but didn’t know it.”  The internet is a fabulous tool in this way and consistently amazes me.  My Reiki guides help me with all of this.  No detail is too small for them.  When we truly listen to our Divine Guidance every day, trust it, act on it we are in the flow of Divine Energy and our timing will always be right on.  Our guides make it so.

“Your best work involves timing. If someone wrote the best hip hop song of all time in the Middle Ages, he had bad timing.”  – Scott Adams

WORKING WITHIN OUR CREATIVE FRAMEWORK

I also believe that our Reiki Guides work with us within the framework that we have in place currently, our human brain, which we chose for our exact purpose before we came here.  In my case, my human A.D.D. brain which is perfect for the intuitive process, not so great for memorizing details, is perfect for what I am meant to do in this lifetime; heal myself and others.  Our guides do not change us, make us “better” or turn us into an award-winning writer when we are not meant to be one.  I believe they work with the gifts we have chosen currently for this life,  and that they believe we are perfect just as we are.

We come into this world with all the gifts we need, expand them, work with them, be grateful for them and they will grow.
We come into this world with all the gifts we need, expand them, work with them, be grateful for them and they will grow.

We chose to come in with these gifts for a reason.  I was not meant to be the author of the “Harry Potter” series but the author of a Reiki blog for Reiki students.  I have the gifts and talents for that-perfectly.  I work within this framework with my guides while continuing to learn and enhance my abilities as I go.  If I waited until I was a fabulous writer before I ever wrote, I’d never write.

I say all this, because I want us to stop the negative talk that we do to ourselves.  It hurts us in so many ways, it doesn’t help.  You are exactly as you are meant to be, be grateful for it and learn how to work with it.  Learn what your gifts truly are and enhance them, work with them, be grateful for them and you will expand and grow beautifully.  I’ve found it doesn’t help to put myself down for the abilities I don’t have  (like a tremendous vocabulary, that is what a Thesaurus is for,)  but to be grateful for these gifts I do have and come from a place of gratitude as often as possible, and it is often possible.  Through gratitude of what we currently have, we gain more.  BE GRATEFUL FOR WHO YOU ARE NOW, IT IS EXACTLY WHO YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE!!

“If I waited for perfection, I would never write a word.”  Margaret Atwood

HOW TO WORK WITH REIKI FOR WRITING

Laura Ingalls Wilder, my long time hero, did not get her first book published until the age of 65. She is an inspiration to me, that it is never too late to start something new. Just do it!
Laura Ingalls Wilder, my long time hero, did not get her first book published until the age of 65. She is an inspiration to me, that it is never too late to start something new. She was a farmer’s wife for many years, started writing articles for local journals and expanded her abilities along the way with practicing for these journals.  She finally wrote her first book because they had lost all their retirement money in the Great Depression and needed something to live on.  That was motivation.  Timing.

Having said that, if you feel drawn to writing, then write.  Don’t wait, just do it!

Reiki can help you by healing your issues around writing.  Reiki yourself for issues, such as:

  • Writing and expressing yourself
  • Being heard, sharing your thoughts, ideas and opinions
  • Fear of judgment from others
  • Self confidence
  • Safety on the internet
  • Opinions of others, criticism
  • Responsibility to others, someone using your information in a negative fashion
  • Procrastination or motivation
  • Focus
  • Flow of energy, words and thoughts
  • Any issue you have that is keeping you from moving forward on your writing journey

HOW TO WRITE WITH REIKI

  1. Meditate – in a perfect world I’d meditate before each sitting to write.  I do this often, but sometimes my ideas come when they come and I write “on the fly”.  This is preferred but optional.
  2. Get Centered and Grounded – with or without mediation, spend some time intending and visualizing being centered and grounded.
  3. Prepare yourself with the right atmosphere for you to write; time alone, nice calm music, quiet, door closed, etc.  Sometimes I don’t have any of these and manage to write anyway.  Do what you can when you can.  Don’t let the ‘perfect’ setting keep you from DOING IT!  I have kids and pets, the setting is rarely quiet and perfect for writing, but I do it anyway.
  4. * GasshoBring in your Reiki and Reiki Guides– I do this with the Gassho method.  With my hands at my heart in prayer position I respectfully ask for the Reiki to flow.  With my hands at my third eye, I ask for the Highest and Most Spiritual Order of Reiki Guides with the intention of writing a Reiki blog to come and help me in all ways needed.  Prayer hands back at my heart I intend for Grounding, Centering, a Pure Heart and a Clear  Channel for the Reiki to flow.
  5. I imagine the Reiki flowing into my crown chakra from Divine Source and flowing down through my brain, through my heart and then through my hands for the typing and out to the keyboard.
  6. I type directly onto my blog.  I first tried to type onto word or write the blog onto paper and transfer it, but no, that didn’t work.  For me I found for the flow to flow the best, I needed to blog right onto the blank blog ‘paper.’  Do what works for you.  Try different methods but your guides will tell you what is best for you quickly.
  7. *LISTEN to your Higher Guidance while typing for ideas and phrases that work best.  This may be the hardest part, the listening.  But, also one of the most important parts.  You’ve got nothing to lose by listening but a lot to lose by not.
  8. WRITE– I write differently every time.  Sometimes I start with just an idea and work on it later.  Sometimes I’ll write the whole blog in one sitting and then edit.  Most times I take many sittings to write a blog, re-write, research, pictures, and editing.  The process is part of the learning and timing as much as anything.
  9. *Reiki Yourself – Be kind to yourself in the process.  Reiki yourself if you start having blockages come up.  Talk to yourself like your very best friend would to help get you through any road blocks to writing.  Reiki yourself some more to heal the issues we talked about up above.
  10. *Communicate with your Reiki Guides regularly I tell my guides to being me ideas for blogs anytime.  I write them down or get the blog idea started and then write it later.  This way I am always open to the intuitive flow of ideas coming from Divine.  Yes, we need to tell our guides what we want and they will do it for us.  Ask and say Thank You!

I pray this encourages some of you to do that little creative thing that has been pestering your mind and spirit lately, whether it be writing, painting, singing, drumming.   Any creative pursuit is enhanced by running Reiki at the same time.  Reiki makes the world a more intuitive and beautiful place.  I envision a very resplendent world myself and you and Reiki are all a HUGE part of it.

Many Blessings to you for reading and bringing Reiki energy into your life,

Josslyn

Reiki Circle – Baby Reiki!!

By Josslyn Streett, Reiki Master/Teacher for Rain Shadow Reiki in Sequim, WA

I do not always write about our Reiki circles, but lately it seems there has been something of interest to write about.  Last night we had a very nice sized Reiki circle, not out biggest, but big for our small town Reiki community.  We had 15 people come, learn about, discuss and share Reiki.

We had three rooms with a massage table in each and five people at each table. Each group working with Reiki independently but also, I could feel the energy of all 15 of us, all working together as one, one intention, one energy, on purpose- to heal each other.
We had three rooms with a massage table in each and five people at each table. Each group working with Reiki independently, but also, I could feel the energy of all 15 of us, all working together as one; one intention, one energy, one purpose  – to heal each other.  I could also feel, in the bigger picture, all spiritual people all over the world coming together in unity, in one purpose, to heal our world, one person at a time, or 15 at a time in our case.  This is why working in small spiritual groups is so important for all of us right now. (Photo by Josslyn Streett – do not use without consent from her directly)

We had people of all experiences with Reiki and some with absolutely no experience at all.  We started with a discussion of what Reiki is, then how to do Reiki, then as we know, especially with Reiki that EXPERIENCE IS THE BEST TEACHER, we DID Reiki on each other.  That is what Reiki circle is all about after all, DOING!!

Which leads me to one of my favorite quotes I read in my Reiki I class about Reiki by Frank Arjava Petter from his book “Reiki, The Legacy of Dr. Usui”, “Reiki itself, I mean the energy, cannot be taught.  It reveals itself completely on its own if we are attentive.  This attention is what the teacher promotes in the student.”

Energy must not be explained, but experienced.”

BABY REIKI

Baby M is back and doing Reiki on us. He took my full Reiki I class with his mom a month ago and came to the circle with his mom. Watching was not enough, he wanted to DO Reiki too!
Baby M is back and doing Reiki on us. He took my full Reiki I class with his mom a month ago and we believe he spontaneously attuned himself because he’s been running Reiki ever since then.  Tonight he came to the circle with his mom. Watching was not enough, he wanted to DO Reiki too! (Photos by Josslyn Streett – do not use without consent from her directly.)

I and one other at our table received our first Reiki from a baby.  And, he had very distinct ideas about where he wanted his hands as well as his mother’s hands.  He was pushing on her and directing her hands where he wanted them to be.  He was quite serious in his practice.  But, then, he’s quite a serious guy.

COMING TOGETHER

I also felt a very strong feeling of coming together.  Not just this group of 15 people coming together, but the whole world, coming together as ONE, to shift the energy of our planet.  These are the feelings I often get at Reiki circle and one of the reasons I love Reiki circle so much and encourage everyone to attend one.  Small groups of spiritual people coming together with intention, purpose and Divine Guidance can seriously change the world for the better.  We can save ourselves and our world, all at the same time.

What are you doing on a Saturday night that is more important than that?  (Question for you, not for me.)

Thank you so much for all who attended our circle last night.  I’m so incredibly grateful every single time I get to participate with these amazing spiritual people, right here in my own small town.  I’m constantly amazed by how many people are coming out of the woodwork to learn Reiki and also, a whole new way of being connected to our Creator through Reiki practice.  I love it, live for it because it gives me great hope for our future.  And, because it makes life truly magical every single day.

Great Blessings to you all,

Josslyn

Reiki I Class Plus Baby M., Completed Successfully!!

By Josslyn Streett, Reiki Master/Teacher for Rain Shadow Reiki in Sequim, WA

Well it took two weeks, four classes and eighteen hours, but we completed the Reiki I class with a nursing baby and it was FABULOUS!!  I’m posting a few photos here for fun.  We knew this class would take a little more time and patience due to having an 8 month old baby with us, but really, he was the most well-behaved and the quietest of us all.  LOL.  Baby M rarely fussed at all and when he did we knew it was for a good reason, diaper, nursing or I was just talking way too much.  Usually the last one.

I got a whole lot of baby holding time during this class, during each meditation, each practice session, it was a great blessing to me who has older kids. I got my 'baby time' for sure.

He liked watching me talk a lot, as long as my hands were moving too.  He watched all the attunements with great interest, 35 minutes straight and he watched each person while they did the practice healings on each other, until he got bored with that and was more into his teething and rolling over.

The ladies involved in the class had great questions that provoked interesting conversations thus causing us to have a wonderful time but also go a bit over on time.  But, as we learn in class IT’S ALL GOOD!  I had a great time and I believe they did too.  Hopefully some of them will comment here so we know. Hint hint.

Amber practicing on Gigi.
Amber practicing on Gigi.  This hand position is good for relaxing and dissolving stress and fear, sinus problems, eye, nose, tooth and jaw ailments.  It also balances the pineal and pituitary glands which correspond to the 6th and 7th chakras.

When working with Reiki I teach that there is no wrong.  It’s important to remember this when you leave your class and go home to practice.  I’m not with you but your Reiki guides are.  They will remind you, you cannot do it wrong.  Even if you do something ‘wrong’, you learn something from it and thus, it was perfect all along.  Therefore, IT’S ALL GOOD!!  This allows us to open up our box of possibilities and try new things, stretch our abilities and imagination and thus, learn more, do more and be more.  It is one of the things I love most about doing and teaching Reiki.  I cannot do it wrong!  Even not doing it, is a lesson in and of itself.

The practice sessions went really well.  Each person was able to FEEL the energy both giving and receiving.  The practice session is the most important part of the class.

Gigi practicing her Gassho (Gas- show) meaning 'two hands coming together' or 'prayer position'. This is a time of grounding, centering and intention.
Gigi practicing her Gassho (Gas- show) meaning ‘two hands coming together’ or ‘prayer position’. This is a time of grounding, centering and intention.  At this position she is calling on help from her Reiki guides

It takes everything we have learned through the days of class and brings it all together in action.  DOING and having an EXPERIENCE with energy is critical to being able to go back home and feel confident practicing by oneself.   During class each person gets to practice on oneself and on one other person, cementing in their new abilities.

I find that each and every class had a common thread to it.  We have something that brought us together, something we all have in common.  This class, among other things, was, of course, our love of children.

Congratulations ladies you have completed Reiki I class!!
Congratulations ladies and Baby M. you have completed Reiki I class!!  Go practice and have fun with it.  I have a feeling your families will get lots of good Reiki practice too.  Lucky families.

Blessings to Baby M and all the ladies who participated in this experiment.  I’d call it a success all around!!

Love and Light to you all,

Josslyn

Reiki I Beginner class…Plus Baby

By Josslyn Streett, Reiki Master/Teacher for Rain Shadow Reiki in Sequim, WA

WHAT A FABULOUS DAY!!

Another first for me, I taught my first Reiki class today with a nursing baby in it.  This class came together so quickly I knew it was meant to be.  I didn’t even know  three of the ladies in the class a month ago so I know my guides set it all up for us.

I didn’t take a Reiki class until my youngest son was three years old.  So when I was approached by a nursing mom to take a Reiki class, I was very happy to accommodate and so were the other three ladies who signed up.  Each person knew there would be a baby in the class and that we may have to stop and allow his mom to take care of him throughout the class, but they all wanted to be a part of this class.  It was a beautiful thing, I must say.  Each ‘mom’ took turns holding him, mainly because we all wanted baby time, but sometimes to keep him occupied while his mom could meditate or write in her journal.  We are holding class for shorter days but more of them spread out, to accommodate not only Baby M and his mom but also another mom with a young child in day care.  See how it all works out when it’s meant to be?!  Perfectly.  Many woman with young children want to explore their spirituality but have a hard time doing it with young children at home.  I totally understand.  I’ve been there.  I’m grateful to be in a position where I can be flexible.  And, I get to have some baby time too.  A win/win.

Baby Fix

I got extra long baby holding time, while we did our morning meditation, which is about 30 minutes long.  I got to hold him while I read the meditation so his mom could get the full effects of the visualization and relaxation.  I put my book on a music stand, held Baby M. and fed him Cheerios and let him suck on my finger for most of the meditation.  Near the end he fell asleep in my arms so I got to continue holding him until lunch.  He was so calm and didn’t mind being held by a total stranger.  He loved my brightly colored blouse and the little sparkles on it.  Such a blessing.  One of my students took a picture of me right after the meditation when Baby M had fallen asleep.  Here is me teaching Reiki while holding a sleeping baby, which felt oh so natural.  Brought back some wonderful memories.  Our babies truly do grow up so fast.

Just thought I’d share this beautiful moment.

Blessings to all the ladies in this class and Baby M for hanging with us all day, we have three more days and I’m really looking forward to them all,

Love and Light to you all,

Joss

Reiki Quick Tip – Reiki Your Feet!

By Josslyn Streett, Reiki Master/Teacher for Rain Shadow Reiki in Sequim, WA

FEET

A reminder that our feet need Reiki too and HOW to do it!

FeetReikiThis topic keeps coming up at the Reiki circles each month.  At the circles we have other people working on us and our feet get lots of Reiki.  Typically we have three to five people surrounding us at Reiki circle all practicing Reiki at the same time.  It is inevitable that someone will be at the feet each time.  My husband is a foot person so he loves to be entrusted with that area during circle.  I prefer the head or the body.  We do our best to move around during circle so each person gets to experience a different side and perspective, but we still tend to have our most comfortable areas.

Poor Ignored Feet

I admit it, I am not a foot person.  I don’t like to have people massage my feet, tickle my feet or even touch my feet.  Just not into it.  So, I also admit, I’m the first to skip my feet when I’m doing a Reiki Self Healing.  There, I admitted it…I skip my feet!  I get down to my knees and then think “Ok, that’s good, I did my self-treatment.”

7200 Nerve Endings In Our Feet

It is good.   Better than not doing it at all, but our feet work very hard for us, every single day.   They deserve more attention that I’m giving them, and maybe your feet do too.

Another reminder – Our feet are also critical to our whole bodies’ health.  Every nerve line in the body ends in the feet. According to the RAA, each foot has 7,200 nerve endings in it.

Reflexology points on the feet
Reflexology points on the feet

And while reflexology practitioners sometimes talk about manipulating “energy,” the basic theory seems to rest with these nerve endings, which would love to be massaged, energized and activated with Reiki also.  Reiki is always gentle and safe.

As well, we have a nice sized chakra in our feet which very importantly brings up Mother Earth energy for grounding.  No surprise with the way I have ignored my feet that this is a continual issue for me.  No judgment, we all have our issues.  So, you can see, as a reminder to myself and all of you, our feet need more attention than we are giving them.  Reiki is the perfect, gentle way to give your feet that attention whether you love to have your feet touched, or not.  Thank goodness, with Reiki you can do it either way, touch or no touch.

Excuses

Our feet are probably the most uncomfortable to get to.  It’s an awkward position to lift our feet up and do Reiki on them on our lap.  I have many clients who physically cannot do this due to age or physical issues.  Then others like me who get so far and then finish or fall asleep before the feet get Reiki.

HOW TO REIKI OUR FEET

We talk about this in Reiki I beginning class.  I’m thinking most teachers probably cover this.  But, since this topic keeps coming up at circles,  I figure a little reminder doesn’t hurt.

HOW to Reiki Your Feet

  • Traditional method – put one foot at a time up on your lab and do hands on Reiki on your foot.  Two hands on one foot at a time.  One on top and one on bottom works nicely. (see photo above)

My young son beaming Reiki at both of his feet at the same time. This is much easier on the body for people with physical limitations.  Hold your hands where most comfortable.  Photo by Joss St, please link if used.
  • Beaming method – Simply put your feet up on a cushion, ottoman,on the bed or even keep them on the floor, and beam the Reiki from your hands to your feet.  One at a time would be best but to beam Reiki at your feet at all, at this point, is all good.
  • Eye beam – beam the Reiki through your eyes, with intention, to your feet one at a time or at the same time.  This may take practice if you have not done it before, but what better way to practice this than by doing Reiki on the hard to reach feet?!  Simply hold the intention in your mind, body and spirit that you are beaming Reiki through your eyes to your feet and then look at your feet.  Imagine this is working and ask Divine to send your Reiki guides to add help for you.  They will give you insight as to how to do this.

IMPORTANT

Please remember, the comfort of your body is important.  You do not want to injure yourself in any way while doing Reiki.  Do what feels good to your body first and foremost and the Reiki energy will flow more abundantly and with ease.

Reiki Symbols

Yes, definitely work with your Reiki symbols with your feet.  I bet your feet will soak up the extra love and attention.  Using grounding symbols at this point would be fabulous since your feet are one area where you may bring up Mother Earth energy for grounding.  The Power Symbol (CKR), or the two Master Symbols (UDKM or TDKM) would work beautifully.  And, of course, since with Reiki there is no wrong, work with any other symbol that your intuition advises for your feet.  It’s all good!

I pray this little reminder will get some of your feet feeling the love very soon.  I know my feet are much happier.  Thank you to all of you who participate in the circles and help to bring so many blog ideas to share with others.

Blessings to you all,

Josslyn

Reiki Round Table – February 3,2014

By Josslyn Streett, Reiki Master/Teacher for Rain Shadow Reiki

Last night, ten woman and two babies gathered to talk about Reiki and other spiritual issues surrounding Reiki practice and our spiritual journeys.  For me, as many Reiki events are, the evening was nothing short of MAGICAL  It is so difficult for me to describe these feelings to others who were not there, but I will do my best as a means to inspire others to start their own spiritual round table group or come to ours. (Been to Sequim lately?)  Finding a spiritual group you vibrate well with is more important than ever as we are, many of us all at the same time, waking up to a whole new spiritual way of living.  Have guidance and fellowship to help you through this is key to progress and having more fun with it.  Please read on, especially if you were not at this event.

SHARING SOUL TO SOUL

I’m sure each and every person there had a different experience and the same experience all at the same time.  I felt a connection, a synchronicity with each person both on an earthly level and a soul level.  As they would talk, I would connect with them on the levels of having been through what they had been through, understanding the feelings they were having but also FEELING them myself as well, feeling their soul speak the truth, speak from a higher level of being without even realizing they were.

TOPICS

We talked about so many different topics starting with a basic introduction as to what Reiki is to the new guests, then moving onto talking about our souls and our higher self and what it is, downloads of information, vortexes, spirit guides, the difficulty of the healing journey and finding bliss in our lives in the process, plus many other topics I’m sure I’ve absorbed into my psyche but don’t consciously remember at the moment.  It was beyond fabulous!  We got really deep last night and it was beautiful, confusing and fascinating all at the same time.  It was poetic.

A SPIRITUAL COMING TOGETHER

I can’t share details because everything we say in round table is kept private, but I can share how I felt.  I felt a spiritual community coming together.  I felt a group of ten women and two babies who mostly didn’t know each other, sharing and baring their souls and feeling healed by it.  HEALED BY IT!!  I felt elated by the time the evening was over, full of gratitude and literally exploding with Love and Light of our Divine Creator and of these individual souls.  I couldn’t go to sleep because I was so filled with gratitude and joy, so I stayed up and wrote love notes to my two boys and snuck them in their bedrooms for them to find when they got up in the morning.  Then I settled down and did Reiki on myself.  I felt the Reiki working very powerfully, with flashes of light every ten seconds or so like an MRI machine moving over me.  My eyes were closed, the light was within.  I hadn’t had that experience in about seven years, since a Reiki Master in C.A. worked on me without touching me but created a light show that has not since been surpassed.

GRATITUDE

I’m incredibly grateful to my student, L.T. for inspiring this event.  I’m grateful to all the spiritual people who come to participate.  I’m grateful to Divine Creator for all that is.  I’m grateful to all our Reiki guides who come and surround us with power, protection and support throughout.  And, I’m grateful to my family for supporting me in these Reiki endeavors even though it takes my time away from them in the evenings and weekends.  (Maybe they are happy for the break.  LOL)

So there it is.  Worth taking two hours of my evening on a school night to be with a group of people just talking?  SO WORTH IT!!  I can’t wait for the next one!  What will Divine bring to us then?  I’m already looking forward to it.  The next Reiki Round Table is scheduled for Monday, May 19th at 6pm.  I pray you can make it, if not in person, then in spirit.

Love and Light to you all,

Josslyn
